As someone who has personally read Chiru before anyone even dreamed of it being localized, I must say, this most certainly feels like a dream to me. As a sequel to the original four novels, Chiru shifts from focusing on crazy locked rooms and insane banter between a witch and a guy who should really learn to get over himself, to focusing on why Beatrice would even create such a bloody tale and what her identity really is. I won't mince words, Umineko Chiru has at times been derided in the VN community as being pretentious, overly convoluted and bit weird at times. And while I won't deny the aspect of Chiru being convoluted at times, I implore readers to have an open mind.Umineko Chiru is exceptionally unique among VNs, it tackles a lot of the subjects that first four episodes had touched upon but done in a much more sublime way, especially when it tackles the newer subjects-all of which will not only make you think about the meaning of the game as a whole, but also stop to introspect yourself at timesWhile the murder mystery and logic battles are still here and are all fun and good, expect them to take a bit of backseat for now. You job as a reader and a detective is not to figure out the howdunnit, but also the who and whydunnit. This is not a game between Battler and Beatrice anymore, but between you and the author.So in that regard, I say you should stay on your toes while reading Chiru as it will not be getting easierAnd I guess as a parting note....while I do understand some of the frustrations people have had with Chiru, I can say without a single doubt that Umineko Chiru is the heart and soul of Umineko. Without it, you could say that while Umineko was entertaining in the same way Death Note was, it never reached that level of lets say....Evangelion didSo to the person who is reading this, I can guarantee that Chiru is outstanding. Sure its not as solid as the previous four, but Chiru is most certainly a marvel the same way Frankenstein was a marvel despite its numerous flaws-and I say that Chiru's high points are exponentially higher than any of the previous four's or even Higurashi's.So honestly, enjoy yourself reader. Take it all in. Try and solve the mystery of who Beatrice is and why she created this game. You may not enjoy all of it-but I can say for sure you will at the very least be thinking differently when you finish. So now that I played both the Question and Answer arcs I have to say that while I found the narrative to be over all enjoyable it also unfortunately suffers from being too long winded in terms of finally getting to the heart and point of the matter. The dev did a lot better with Higurashi in my opinion but even then there were times that he got too long winded with some scenes. Particularly “fight scenes”. I won’t go into spoilers but at some point I was getting frustrated due to the unnecessary, lengthy battle scenes. It may have a lot to do with me just wanting to finally get to the conclusion though because I played both arcs back to back, one after the other. But over all it was a good experience and I like the final episode where there were gameplay choices. I just wish that the fight scenes were shorter and that over all it wouldnt beat around the bush.. It's <Very Good.>. The best visual novel I ever played! I never found any story with such mind blowing plot, most beautiful character development, and best love story i've ever known. the BGM is also very catchy and lovely.. Umineko When They Cry is that unique title that is worth your time and money. If you are a huge fan of detective stories, I must say that Umineko When They Cry is the best of the best: it is quite difficult to anticipate what might happen next and because of that this visual novel is that great.The visual novel focuses on a very wealthy family called Ushiromiya, which is the main focus of the novel. The family consists of the ruling father, his adult children, and their children and spouses. One day, the family doctor reveals that the oldest Ushiromiya does not have much time to live, implying that there will soon be a huge battle, regarding the inheritance of all the fortune. During the yearly family meeting, the issue in question will be settled. The thing is, the family meeting will take place on a remote island. When the whole Ushiromiya family reaches the island, they will be involved in a very mysterious case. Not only will they have to find out the secret behind the fortune of the head of the Ushiromiya family, but they will also have to find the culprit that will kill their family members and the staff. All in all, I have never been a fan of visual novels; however, Umineko When They Cry is that rare gem that you might find once in a while. Its story is something that you will never guess, its story is something that will amaze you. Even if you are not a fan of vns and have never read them, do give Umineko When They Cry a try, it is worth it.. writing a review doesn't do this VN any justice, but i'm still rating it 10/10
